2000 Triangle UFO Sighting in Missouri

In 2012, I was assigned a MUFON UFO sighting case by an 80-year-old witness who reported a sighting he had on January 5, 2000. Amazingly, it was related to the high-profile case in Illinois which received much media coverage, but until 2012 no one knew that the case actually included the area near Union, Missouri.

The witness, who wishes to remain anonymous, said that he retired from Law Enforcement after 10 years. He then moved into State Government work for 28 years. After retirement he stepped back into Government work as a consultant. He worked as a Volunteer Asst. Fire Chief for 24 years and was also a member of the Arson squad in a county in Missouri.

On Jan. 5, 2000, the witness was at a nearby township investigating a house fire. At around 3:00 a.m. he walked back to his truck to clean off all the dirt from his boots and turn out gear. He started listening to the two-way radio in his truck and heard radio traffic from the Illinois area. The Illinois County. dispatcher was talking to some police about an unidentified object heading for the St. Louis area.

After about a half hour, the witness headed home on I-44. That's when he picked up the local county dispatcher talking to a Union, MO Police Officer about a large object over Highway. 50 & Highway 47.  He immediately turned down Highway 47 towards Union, MO. As he came over the hill into town, he saw three white lights in the sky about 75-100 feet. apart from each other. In between the round white lights there were multicolored-color lights scrolling back and forth from left to right and back again.

He came down the hill and pulled up behind two Police Officers parked on the side of the road, assuming that they were observing the object as well.

He could see a very large black triangle-shaped craft with more lights on the bottom of the craft. There was one very bright white light in each corner and one red light in the center towards the back of the craft. The white lights were beaming straight down. The red light was blinking on and off like a radio tower light. He got out of his truck and started walking up to the Police Officers. One officer was from the City of Union, MO the other was a Franklin County. Deputy. Just as he got up to them the craft started to move off to the northeast at a very fast running speed. The two officers got in their respective cars and started to chase the craft.

The officers were using their overhead red lights and the witness caught up to them. The craft had stopped about a mile up the road. He got out of his truck and walked up to the officers and all three men watched the object. As they were watching, the bright spotlight type lights in each corner came down to about 100 feet from the ground and stopped. No light beam touched the ground. They watched the craft for about 10 minutes, then the craft moved again. This time it traveled only about a mile and stopped again. After stopping and getting out to talk with officers once again, he noticed the County officer was trying to talk to the dispatcher by two-way radio. The witness had a portable two-way radio with him and could not pick-up any radio traffic from the County or the officer in front of him. He assumed that the craft affected the radios somehow. The county officer tried to set his dash camera in the up direction towards the craft, but it was bolted and would not turn. The officers had no other cameras with them and were unable to take photos.

The witness said that the craft was directly overhead and about 500 ft.in altitude. The craft was also the width of a football field. The sides in some parts of the craft where about 10-feet. at the corners and moved up to about 20-feet. in the center, making it curved on top and flat across the bottom. As this craft moved again, all radio traffic returned to normal. They could again hear the dispatcher in Illinois.

As the craft moved off for the third time, the County officer looked at both of the other witnesses and said,
"I have another call pending," got back into his car and drove off, then Union officer said that he was too far out of the city limits. He said, "I don't see a thing," then got back in his car, turned around on old Highway 100 and inexplicably drove off. The witness watched the craft move off until he could not see the lights any longer. It was moving cross country and there were only private roads & driveways. He got back into his truck and drove home, perplexed not only at what he saw and the fact that two officers left the scene.

The witness said that he waited for weeks to see this story in the newspaper or on the TV news, but no one filed a report. Due to the fact that he didn't have a Police report to fall back on, he decided not to talk to anyone about this sighting. Now that he is retired and he keeps hearing reports of triangle UFOs in Missouri, he thought he would bring this story to light in order to help investigators in the future.

This report gives us a more complete understanding of the 2000 Triangle sighting.

Cryptid Creatures in Jackson County, Missouri

By Margie Kay

Most Cryptid sightings occur in the woods or countryside, but apparently, these creatures have invaded Independence and East Jackson County, Missouri in recent years. I’ve received reports from several people, and even had my own encounters in this area, including a sighting just four weeks ago. The questions are where are these creatures living, what is their food source, and why aren’t more people seeing or reporting them?

CHUPACABRA

A woman who wishes to remain anonymous sent the following to me via email: “My BFF saw a cryptid cross over Little Blue Parkway not far from Centerpoint Hospital. This is what she wrote about it: "It walked on both - two and four legs. Some people call it a chupacabra.”

She goes on to say, “My son and his friend saw one in Odessa, Missouri over by the lake near our old house. They said it crawled on all fours and then stood up on two legs and jumped over the fence. It had spikes along the back and large fangs. They both thought they saw a demon. Scared them terribly. My son doesn't like to talk about it." There was an article about this sighting in Missouri Conservationist, which explained that the creature must have been a coyote with mange, but the witness said, “Coyotes don’t stand up on two hind legs.”

WRAITH

Four weeks ago, I had my own sighting of a strange creature while driving south on Crysler just past Truman Road in Independence after dark. A creepy-looking thin man wearing a hoodie crouched down on all fours and crawled across the road, then suddenly, he flew backward through the air to the middle of the road in a second and crawled once again to the other side.

This happened a third time, and finally, as I was driving past, he stood up. I could not see his face, but his arms were unusually long. I kept driving as I knew that this was not a normal human being. It was as if a movie played back three times. I couldn't believe what I was seeing and still don't today.

GIANT DOG

In the fall of 2012, my daughter and her husband were driving westbound on 23rd Street near Spot Not car wash in Independence when they saw something running towards them in the other lane. It looked like a white cloud shaped like a dog as tall as the roof of their car and as long as the car. It ran like a dog on all fours and ran past their vehicle. The couple looked in the mirrors and turned around to look out the back window, but the creature was no longer visible. My daughter said that the creature looked like a monstrous Borzoi, a large Russian Sighthound. She still can't believe what she saw.

LARGE BLACK CATS

From 2009 to 2023 I received several reports of a very large panther-sized black cat in Raytown, Missouri, which is just south of Independence. One witness said she was sitting on her front porch and noticed that the neighbor's across the street had a new large black cat ornament in their yard - until it walked away. She got up and went back in the house and won't sit outside any longer.

Other people witnessed a large black cat that they saw walking, then dissolve into thin air.

A man who lives near 63rd Street said he saw a huge black cat running across the busy street late at night. He called the Missouri Department of Conservation, and they told him that there couldn't be any panthers in that area. As far as he knows, they did not investigate.

Is it possible that a real black panther is living in Raytown or is this a supernatural creature?

These sightings, combined with the large cryptid winged creatures, Sasquatch, and pterodactyls that have been seen in the area are concerning. (See my previous posts) Does East Jackson County have a portal to another dimension that is allowing these types of creatures to come and go at will?  This needs further investigation.

Spooklights in Independence, Missouri

Rendering of lights in Independence, MO by Margie Kay

Several areas across the United States are known for Spook lights, with the Joplin Spook Light and the Marfa Lights in Texas being the most popular, however, several lesser-known sites have consistent reports of unexplained lights, and Independence, Missouri is one of those places.

Last October, I was outside at around midnight when I noticed two dull circular lights slowly come into view across the RR tracks about 100 feet behind my house. They were in front of trees, and they were not well-defined circles, with amorphous edges and a white/blue hue. These lights did not fit into the category of house lights, flashlights or anything I am familiar with. There was no beam projecting them. After watching these objects for a few minutes they slowly began to move downward, towards the tracks, which were about 20 feet below. Then the moved down the tracks to the east and out of sight.

On June 6, 2023, the lights reappeared in nearly the same place they did previously and again at midnight. I checked the lights on houses across the tracks, and also on my side and could not find a source. I contemplated going inside to get my cell phone, but the objects would have been gone by the time I returned.

Strange phenomena have occurred on these tracks for years, including two sightings of an old-time ghost train, complete with smoke billowing out of the stack. I was lucky enough to see one of those trains, which then disappeared as if through a portal. The railroad cut and tracks were installed during the Civil War, and not a mile from this location was a Civil War battle, across the cut. At one house near the cut, the owners complain of ghostly apparitions and poltergeist activity.

Perhaps these eerie lights are spirits from a bygone era.

What Giant Bird is at Blue Springs Lake?

A new report just came in from three witnesses who saw a gigantic bird at Blue Springs Lake (also near Lake Jacomo) in Blue Springs, Missouri. A mother and two of her grown children were driving in the area and saw a huge bird fly overhead, over trees, then swoop up and over a hill. They said that the bird was a dark brown color and did not resemble an eagle or hawk and that the wingspan was a minimum of 10' wide.

The three witnesses checked www.whatbird.com to see if they could find the bird that they saw and could find no match.

Other reports have been received of very large birds in Missouri with wing spans up to 30'.  These other reports have been from Independence, Missouri, south of St. Louis in a rural area near the Missouri River bluffs, and another in Blue Springs. In all cases, the birds have been seen near water.

A Bizarre UFO Flap is going on in Missouri

Missouri MUFON received 60 UAP/UFO sighting reports in the past 90 days. The sightings are centered around the greater Kansas City area; however, UFOs have been tracked across the state.

In the early morning hours on August 10, 2022, multiple witnesses from six locations saw what appears to be the same object. It was described as massive in size, a grey metallic color, with two rows of windows on the side which were lit from within. There were no exterior lights on the objects, and they made no sound. All of these sightings occurred between 5:00 am and 5:30 am. Investigators determined the length of the object to be approximately 1/4 mile. Some of the sightings were found to be Starlink, however, two were very close to the witnesses, blocking out stars.

August 10, 2022 sightings

Throughout the later part of July, all of August and now into September, there were multiple UFO sightings of strange craft. In two instances, witnesses described seeing a dark triangle on top of a half-circle. It was seen during the day and hovered before shooting straight up and out of sight. One witness said that the clock on his truck malfunctioned during a sighting but went back to normal once the object was gone. Witnesses in Odessa see balls of light bouncing about their trees.

There also seems to be a pattern following major metro areas, waterways, and highways. Reports have come in every day in September as well. Witnesses describe seeing large balls of light, satellites that stop or turn at a 90-degree angle without slowing down, triangular craft, saucer-shaped craft, among others. Missouri MUFON State Director Debbie Ziegelmeyer said that the number of reported sightings have increased greatly as of late. "We don't know what is going on, or why this is happening now," she said.

State-wide sightings in Missouri

Kansas City MUFON will host a Town Hall Meeting on September 19, 2022. Please register at www.missourimufon.org   The public is invited to attend. The state-wide Missouri MUFON ZOOM meeting on November 10 will cover these sightings. Meetings are open to the public.

To file a UFO report from anywhere, go to www.mufon.com. An investigator will be in touch.

Massive Unidentified Aerial Object Spotted Over Multiple Missouri Locations

Missouri MUFON reports that multiple witnesses observed the same large unidentified aerial object from four separate locations in Missouri including near KCI Airport, Smithville, Richmond, and Cameron in the early morning hours of August 10, 2022. It is estimated that the size of the object was 1/4 mile wide.

1.  A husband and wife in Smithville, Missouri saw a very large disk-shaped craft with rectangular windows on the side at 5:00 am on the morning of August 10. It approached from the south, then turned east. It was low in the sky and estimated to be at least 300 feet in length. The craft moved slowly and did not change its speed. The two witnesses said that there was no sound, no wings or tail, no exterior lights, and no emissions. They wondered how something that large could keep airborne, especially at the slow speed it traveled.

“The strangest thing is that there was this weird fog on the ends of the object, partially obscuring the craft,” said one witness. “I’m actually having a difficult time dealing with what I saw.”

2.  At 5:12 am Josh Fetters saw something in the sky on the same morning, on his way to work. He said "I was able to get a somewhat blurry photo of it, as well as a blurry video. For some reason my camera wouldn’t focus on the object very well. I was traveling on 435 S toward Kansas City, you come around a curve right before Cookingham Rd exit and there is a water tower on the left side of the highway. I pulled over right by the water tower (you can see it in my photo, I used this as a reference point). The object was traveling very slow. I saw it for about 1 minute and I lost it behind some clouds. At this point, I had to continue my trip to work."

3.  At 5:15 am a man in Richmond, Missouri went out on his back porch and saw a very large, long, thin cigar shaped object that was a grey metallic color with vents on the side move very slowly across the sky. It had no lights. He watched it go from North to South for approximately 1 minute, then lost sight of it.

4.  At 5:13 am a man in Blue Springs, Missouri saw a long thin grey object moving slowly across the sky heading east.

5.  At 5:20 am a truck driver in Cameron, Missouri spotted what appears to be the same object, which he described as being extremely large, having rectangular windows lit from the inside with no exterior lights. Notably, the object was not obscured by fog. “It was at least the size of three football fields and flying so low and slow, that I couldn’t understand how it was flying,” said the witness.

A group of workers in Cameron also saw the object and posted it on social media.

More witnesses have come forward, but we don't have the details yet.

Missouri MUFON field investigators Margie Kay, Jean Walker and James Bair calculated that the object was only moving at approximately 90 MPH or less. They are working on this case, which is still under investigation. They ask that anyone who may have seen the same or a similar object come forward with a report to www.mufon.com. An investigator will be assigned to the case.

This is an ongoing investigation, and we will post new information as we receive it.

The Mutual UFO Network has been in operation since 1969 and is the largest civilian UFO investigative organization in the world.

UFO Rises from the Lake of the Ozarks

A military veteran who wishes to remain anonymous reports that he was at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri near Sunrise Beach one late evening in the summer of 1993 when he and a friend noticed lights under the water in the lake. The lights were white around the perimeter of a round object, which seemed to come up from deeper in the lake.

Next, the object rose up above the water and they could see that it was a silver saucer shaped craft with white lights on the exterior and one red light on the bottom. It hovered just above the water for approximately 10 seconds then slowly rose higher to approximately 200 feet and stopped for about three seconds, then suddenly shot up to a higher altitude at an estimated 5,000 feet and instantly shot off at an extremely high rate of speed to the east and out of sight. The men stood there, silently watching in awe and could not believe what they just saw.

The witness said, "I was around planes every day when I served in the military in Vietnam and I can tell you for certain that it was not one of ours. Nothing we had then and nothing we have now could possibly do what we saw on that night." The witness stated that he heard about pilots seeing strange things while he served in Vietnam but he never saw anything himself until this incident. "That convinced me that we are not alone on this planet, and something is going on at the Lake of the Ozarks," he said.

There have been many reports of unidentified flying objects and USOs (unidentified submerged objects) at lakes in Missouri including Blue Springs Lake, Truman Lake (which is now the largest lake in Missouri) Lake Jacomo, Clearwater Lake, Lake St. Louis, and the Lake of the Ozarks. Investigators speculate that there may be underwater UFO bases in Missouri and elsewhere.

The Lake of the Ozarks was formed in 1931 when Bagnell Dam was built. At the time, it was the largest man-made lake in the world. At its greatest depth, the Lake of the Ozarks is 130 feet deep, and it spans 92 miles from one end to the other, with plenty of room for an underwater UFO base.

Large Panther-like Cat Morphs into a House Cat

On August 6, 2022 while in Cape Girardeau, Missouri for a conference at the Drury Inn Hotel and Conference Center, Debbie Ziegelmeyer and I saw a very large black cat which was too big to be a house cat. It was about the size of a large bobcat and it had a head like a panther. I even thought it might have been a juvenile panther. We were driving into the parking lot of the hotel after going to a party hosted by the conference promoters, and no one else was around at the time. It was approximately 11:30 pm.

The creature walked very strangely, especially with its back legs which seemed more mechanical. It walked slowly and deliberately and did not seem to be afraid of my vehicle. Neither of us could figure out what we were looking at, and thought that it was extremely bizarre.

We drove closer to get a better look at it as it walked across the lot, and it then morphed into a regular house cat and got smaller. Debbie said "What the heck is going on?" I wsh I had gotten a photo, but this photo of a black panther is the closest thing to what we saw, only much smaller. We both saw it change into a smaller regular size house cat, so this indicates that something supernatural was going on.

Note: According to the Missouri Department of Conservation there are not supposed to be any black panthers in Missouri.

Mothman Shadows in Missouri

Recently, a friend asked me if there had been any Mothman sightings in Missouri as of late, and I told her that it had been unusually quiet. I spoke too soon, because a few days later two separate incidences occurred, and one was my own.

Incident #1: I spoke with Tony Degn this past weekend. Tony is a paranormal, Mothman, and UFO experiencer, and has had many encounters with strange phenomena. I wrote about his Mothman encounters in my book "Winged Aliens." Tony told me that while he was driving on a highway in Branson, Missouri in July, 2022, he saw a huge shadow of what he identified as a Mothman, fly across the highway in front of him in broad daylight. Tony said that the shadow of the outstretched wings measured the width of the highway across two lanes in front of him. He attempted to look out the windshield of his vehicle but could see nothing. Tony just chalked this up as him being followed by this creature yet again. It seems to follow him no matter where he is.

Incident #2: On Thursday, August 4, 2022 fellow investigator Jean Walker and I headed from Kansas City to Cape Girardeau, Missouri where I spoke at a conference. It should be noted that Jean and I often have very strange things happen when we are together, and we discuss this in our presentation "Two Women and a Map," which we plan to put into a book.

As I drove my SUV on I-70 highway, halfway between Columbia and St. Louis, my cruise control suddenly caused the vehicle to speed up very quickly. It got to ninety-five miles per hour before I could step on the brake to slow down. Just at that moment, Jean saw a huge shadow of a winged creature which took up half of our lane plus the shoulder all the way to the grass. That distance is approximately 10 - 15 feet. Keep in mind that this was in daylight. Jean tried to see what it was but could see nothing, but she was also concerned about the vehicle. As the vehicle slowed it began to shake violently and the engine light came on. I immediately pulled off the nearby exit and stopped at the one and only structure at that exit, and thankfully it was a gas station. We let the car cool down and I got some gas, then started it up again and it seemed to be fine. I did not reengage the cruise control just in case. Jean pointed out that at the exact same time my SUV started acting up the shadow of the gigantic bird (or whatever it was) appeared right over the vehicle. We both thought that was extremely strange.

We have all seen shadows of birds flying across the highway, and know what a hawk shadow looks like, but a 10' - 15' shadow is enormous in comparison. We can only guess at what these recent shadows were, but given our past history, I would say that Mothman is the top contender. If it is an inter-dimensional creature, which I suspect it is, is it possible that only its shadow appears during the day? Surely, someone else driving on either side of the road would notice such a large, winged creature and file a report somewhere! We can only hope that another traveler saw whatever made those gigantic shadows in both cases,
and even better, caught it on film. But I' not holding my breath.

Mysterious UAPs Observed in Sibley, Missouri

Multiple UAPs were recently seen by several witnesses in Sibley, Missouri, East of Independence.

This occurred on the evening of June 29, 2022 while several family members were sitting outside on the patio visiting with each other. One man noticed movement in the sky, and the four men then stood up to watch the spectacle before them. The objects were white lights that appeared to be larger than planets. They moved very quickly, stopped, then darted about the sky, moving in all directions at very high rates of speed, unlike conventional aircraft. There was no sound. After several minutes, the lights disappeared.

The witnesses ruled out planes, helicopters, and drones.

Sibley is a village in Jackson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 357 at the 2010 census. It is known as the home of Fort Osage National Historic Landmark. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. The town is located very close to the Missouri River, where multiple UAP sightings have been reported.

Image: Wikipedia Commons

Unfortunately, no video was taken by the witnesses.

Right Old map of the Sibley area.

Missouri is a known UFO/UAP hotspot, and is consistently in the top 10 for UFO sightings nationwide. Investigators suspect that the rivers have something to do with the number of sightings.

Daniel Boone's Bigfoot Sighting

Daniel Boone By Chester Harding -
http://npg.si.edu/object/npg_NPG.2015.102,
Public Domain,
https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=66327138

Before his death in 1820, famous explorer and pioneer Daniel Boone spoke of once killing a giant 10-foot hairy creature. It is unclear where this occurred but likely it was in Kentucky, where he lived with his family from 1775, or Missouri where he settled in 1799. Boone had been previously silent about the matter, only sharing the story with a few people, but during the year prior to his death he told several people about the encounter, possibly in an attempt to get the tale out before he passed on.

The most notable written account is from the book DANIEL BOONE: THE LIFE AND LEGEND OF AN AMERICAN PIONEER by John Mack Faragher:

“After the meal one of the men asks Boone for a story, and he begins a tale but is interrupted by a man who claims that his story is ‘impossible.’ With this remark Boone shuts up and despite urgings that he continue, he refuses to speak further. Later that evening, when he has retired to the room he shares with the son of the tavern keeper, the boy asks him about his silence. ‘I dislike to be in a crowd’ Boone explains, and ‘would not have opened my lips had that man remained.’ Well, we are alone now, says the boy, and he presses the old man to tell the story. ‘You shall have it, honey’ says Boone, who has taken a fancy to him, and proceeds to tell of killing a ten foot, hairy giant he called a ‘Yahoo.’

Boone's favorite book was Gulliver's Travels written in 1726 by Jonathan Swift. In the book the giant hairy humanoids were called Yahoos, so it seems fitting that Boone would give the creature he saw that name. Swift describes the Yahoos thus:

"My horror and astonishment are not to be described, when I observed in this abominable animal, a perfect human figure: the face of it indeed was flat and broad, the nose depressed, the lips large, and the mouth wide; but these differences are common to all savage nations, where the lineaments of the countenance are distorted, by the natives suffering their infants to lie grovelling on the earth, or by carrying them on their backs, nuzzling with their face against the mothers’ shoulders. The fore-feet of the Yahoo differed from my hands in nothing else but the length of the nails, the coarseness and brownness of the palms, and the hairiness on the backs. There was the same resemblance between our feet, with the same differences; which I knew very well, though the horses did not, because of my shoes and stockings; the same in every part of our bodies except as to hairiness and colour, which I have already described."

The real question is - where did author Jonathan Swift get the idea for Yahoos? Did Swift encounter a Sasquatch himself?

Seeking the Spook Light

 By Corey Childs

It was the early 2000's and I was running my own paranormal investigation team. I had read up on countless legends around The Show Me State that I called home.

The Joplin Spooklight was interesting, it had a rich history, and from what I had read it was our best chance at obtaining evidence. Our best chance because it was reoccurring and had been spotted for years. Reports stated that if you parked on the Oklahoma East 50 Road, near the three state junction of Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma on a dark night, your chances of viewing the unexplained were better than not.

The history of the light was filled with legend which made it hard to tell fact from fiction. It was said that in the late 1800's it became part of local Native American lore with a love story element to the lights origin. It was also said that the light was the spirit of a local woman searching nightly for her missing husband. It was also said that the light was investigated in 1946 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers who deemed the light as "A mysterious light of unknown origin." The light even appeared on an episode of Unsolved Mysteries.

Over time the light had gone by several names including The Devil's Promenade, Hornet Spook Light etc...

So yours’ truly, a young investigator, set out to solve this long mystery. We arrived approximately three hours before dusk and drove the "haunted" road and all nearby roads, something we did before all investigations. The road had a spooky look and it was easy to imagine it to be haunted. It looked like it were straight out of a  horror movie. The vegetation and trees canopied several parts of the road. Most of the road cut through wooded areas and open fields. As the summer sun sank into the sky the road looked like an old time drive-inn theater. Cars lined both sides of the road and teenagers sat on the hoods waiting to witness the mysterious light.

Upon speaking with some of the locals we got even more stories. Stories of the light passing through cars, chasing cars and people. Most of the witnesses said that when the light got close they could feel heat off of it. From these statements the light sounded more like a fireball than a UFO in the sky.

We broke out our equipment (Night vision, Cameras, Binoculars, digital temperature gauge etc...) and were ready for anything. The teenagers that lined the road were also ready, some standing on the hoods of their car for a better view. Then in the distance we began to see lights. Low to the ground and bright green in color an orb moved around in a circle about 100 feet from us. Then another, this time white in color and about 50 feet from us. Through the night vision cameras we discovered that these were the teenagers with flashlights and glow sticks.  We were disappointed because if there were a mysterious light here the teenagers might destroy our investigation.

We toughed it out though, and just kept our eyes in the tree line. A few hours went by and all the teenagers left. It was only the investigative team at this point and within minutes we saw an auburn light swaying back and forth in the

roadway. We looked through the night vision and binoculars and saw the dim light with nobody around. The light swayed back and forth in an area approximately three to four feet wide.

We weren't going to chance being fooled so we drove to the location quickly in order to catch any possible hoaxers. The road was fairly straight in this area, but had had small hills that caused you to lose sight of the light when going up and down. This was a problem because the light disappeared... every time.

At this point it was time to try something different. We drove with no headlights on to see if our lights might have affected the spooklight, (Driving without headlights is dangerous and not recommended). That changed nothing however, and the light again vanished.

We then set out on foot and still had the same result. After about an hour we tried yet another technique where two of us set out on foot while two people stayed in our original location with eyes on the light. The two watchers who stayed behind reported that as we approached the light it raised up into the sky and stopped at the top of the tree line. Shortly after the light vanished and did not return.

We then attempted to recreate the light by driving on the nearby roads with our headlights on regular and bright beams. We were unable to recreate the light.

Many others have investigated The Joplin Spooklight(s) without finding the source or sources.  Like others of its kind, the light remains a mystery to this day.
