What Giant Bird is at Blue Springs Lake?

A new report just came in from three witnesses who saw a gigantic bird at Blue Springs Lake (also near Lake Jacomo) in Blue Springs, Missouri. A mother and two of her grown children were driving in the area and saw a huge bird fly overhead, over trees, then swoop up and over a hill. They said that the bird was a dark brown color and did not resemble an eagle or hawk and that the wingspan was a minimum of 10' wide.

The three witnesses checked www.whatbird.com to see if they could find the bird that they saw and could find no match.

Other reports have been received of very large birds in Missouri with wing spans up to 30'.  These other reports have been from Independence, Missouri, south of St. Louis in a rural area near the Missouri River bluffs, and another in Blue Springs. In all cases, the birds have been seen near water.

Another Disappearing Crane Incident in Oklahoma

Joey "UFO Magnet" George was out by the levee in West Tulsa on Saturday, April 9, 2022 when he encountered a large crane which disappeared into thin air. This marked the fifth such incident Joey experienced.

                                     Arkansas Riverbank: Photo Joey George

Joey says, “I hiked down the Arkansas Riverbank about a quarter mile, packing my rock hammer and flint knapping tools, my binoculars, telescope, folding chair, a bright spotlight, & some chocolate chip cookies. I planned on harvesting some flint from the riverbank, as my supply for crafting arrowheads was almost completely diminished. I found a satisfactory point that offered a plethora of stones of all sorts, being birthed of the water & sand. I arrived later than expected, and soon the daylight gave way to pinks & oranges, which were quickly consumed by dark purples and blues, giving the Western sky a bruised appearance before being swallowed by darkness.

I retrieved the spotlight from my duffel bag to continue my search for flint. The battery was drained within 5 minutes, ending the hunt, and leaving me behind to the mercy of the darkness. This was the moment I had REALLY come here for, and I eagerly set up the telescope & dialed it in. Settling back in my lawn chair, binoculars around my neck, I opened the package of cookies and waited. Several planes & helicopters flew overhead throughout the two hours that I sat there by the river, sky watching.

With a clear view of the downtown Tulsa skyline in the distance, looking so tiny, that I could hold the whole city in the palm of my hand, I observed a few stars, the Moon, and a couple of distant lights that just faded out and were never seen again. All in all, it was a pretty uneventful night. I didn't find any flint, and the sky didn't offer much excitement other than a brilliant sunset. It was about 11 p.m. when I decided to start packing up to start the hike back to the truck. I was done with the night, but little did I know, the night was not done with ME! I was about to receive a visit from an old friend. For the bigger half of my life, I have had an unexplained relationship with birds. Having countless strange, some even impossible encounters! I was at this moment unaware, as I always was, that I was about to have what would be my 5th encounter with what has come to be called, "The Disappearing Crane."

As I finished stuffing everything back into the bag and slung it over my shoulder, I was startled by the sight of an enormous bird flying completely silent over the water, about 30 ft in front of me. I watched in amazement, taking in every detail of the bird’s grace as it silently glided through the darkness. It seemed impossible to me that something so HUGE & so CLOSE could move without making any sound! I pulled my green laser pointer out of my pocket. It had the kaleidoscope screw-on tip attached, that offered an elaborate design pattern when the attachment was turned. I aimed it in the giant bird's direction, trying to get its attention. I pressed the button a couple times, watching, never letting my eyes leave the dark silhouette the crane had become.

To my surprise, I watched the bird now getting larger, where it had been growing smaller, as it got further away. It was coming back towards me! Yes, it was coming straight in my direction, growing larger still! It had somehow changed direction without turning around!? This did not make any Earthly sense, but it was happening right before my eyes! It grew larger, closer still. Right as I thought to myself, "This creature is going to slam right into me!" It vanished & was gone, leaving behind just me, the night, and another fond memory of an unlikely and mysterious friend.”

This incident, and others like it are included in the book "Winged Aliens," which is available at Amazon.com.

Bird Morphs into a UFO

Photo of a Hawk from Google
On February 11, 2020 Valerie Hoover called to tell me that she had just had a bizarre sighting over her property in Sugar Creek, Missouri.

At approximately 3:00 - 3:15 pm Valerie was outside on her back porch.  She looked up in the sky over the field and thought she saw an eagle, but the head wasn’t white, so she thought it was a hawk. It was circling around just like a hawk. Valerie was afraid it was going to get her small Yorkie,  then it put its wings next to its body as if it were going to soar down, but instead, it formed into a dark round disk-shaped UFO and took off at the speed of light to the Southeast and was out of sight in a second. Valerie realized that whatever she was looking at was definitely not a bird.

This location is the site of multiple UFO, orb, alien, and unidentified creature sightings not only witnessed by Valerie but by multiple investigators, including myself and KC MUFON Section Director Jean Walker. The house is close to the Missouri River.

This is the second winged creature sighting at this location (see my other reports).

Several such winged creature sightings were associated with UFOs or orbs of light at the same time. This is the first event reported in which the flying creature morphed into a UFO. Perhaps these unusual winged creatures are actually not of Earth but are extraterrestrials. Until we get more photos and video this phenomenon will remain unsolved.

MothMan sighting in St. Louis in the summer of 2018

Michael R. reported today that he saw a gigantic bird-like creature with large wings and a human head flying over his rural property 50 miles west of St. Louis in the summer of 2018.

Many strange events have occurred at this location including UFO and humanoid/ET sightings by the witness. I've been to this site and found evidence of damages to trees that cannot be explained by experts, and other evidence of burning in the very tops of the trees. The witness has had multiple encounters here.

I'm adding this to the list of MothMan sightings. This makes sighting number 27 reported to date.

Giant Bird Sighting in Blue Springs, MO Nov 2018

I received the following information via email on January 8, 2020, after posting an article:

"Hi Margie Kay,

I live in Blue Springs and in Nov 2018 I saw a massive black winged creature swoop down out of a tree on Briarwood in Blue Springs, MO. It flew over my car for about 50 yards and disappeared. The wings were huge as they expanded well beyond the width of my car.  I never saw a face so I don’t know if it was humanoid in appearance but I’ve lived in Apple Valley for 20 years and that’s the first time I witnessed anything like that.

This happened on two consecutive Thursday nights at the same location in Nov 2018, which I thought was odd, why Thursday? There was no sound and while I didn’t feel threatened it was scary. The first time it happened I was on my way to play pool (billards) so it was between 6:25 - 6:35 pm as our league starts at 7pm and I had my grandkids in my suv with me. The next week it was the same time frame and I was on the phone with a friend.

I don’t know if that helps with your records but I’ve had that information for a while and had. I idea who to share it with. Hopefully, you find it helpful.

Kind regards,
Samantha Belvoir."

New giant bird sighting in KC makes number 19

Giant bird sighting report number 19 was received in my office on August 4, 2019. A man by the name of Alex was driving on 291 Highway in Independence, Missouri on Monday, July 29 at 5:00 pm when he noticed a very large bird circling high overhead. He pulled over to get a better look at the dark-colored creature because the size was so amazing. Alex said that it was similar to the shape of an Eagle, but way too large to be a bird of that type, and that it must have been something else. He was unable to get a photograph.

291 Highway is located on the east side of Independence, Missouri. Many similar reports have been made (see my articles posted earlier).

Town Hall Meeting in Kansas City: UFO and Giant Bird Sightings

Multiple UFO reports were filed with the Mutual UFO Network during the week of June 20, 2019. We will discuss these reports and show video and still photographs of the objects. The public may file sighting reports at the meeting.

The Kansas City Chapter of the
Mutual UFO Network is hosting
a special Town Hall Meeting on
July 15, 2018 at the Ararat
Shrine Temple at 5100
Ararat Drive, Kansas City,
Missouri in order to present
 information about the
recent UFO sightings during
the week of June 10, 2019.
Several sightings of giant
birds were also reported. Field
investigators will be on hand to take sighting reports from the public.

The number of reports is unusually high. Some objects may have
been High-Tech balloons from DARPA, but an investigator captured images of other objects flying near the balloons which are currently
unidentified. Other reports included small bright red orbs and
transparent rod-shaped objects at tree level. Investigators are
currently working on these reports.

The town hall meeting will begin at 6:00 PM and the regular
MUFON meeting will start at approximately 7:00 PM. Both
meetings are open to the public.

$5.00 admission covers both events.

For those who wish to order dinner the restaurant will begin serving
at 5:00 pm in the meeting hall. The easiest way to access the
meeting hall is to park in back of the building and go in the back
door then turn left and go through the restaurant.

What is the Giant Bird Flying Over Kansas City Skies?

Quest Paranormal Investigation Group just received another report of a giant bird sighting in the skies over greater Kansas City. But unlike the previous eight sightings located in Independence and Sugar Creek, Missouri, near the Missouri River, this event occurred in Overland Park, Kansas approximately 20 miles to the southwest.

On Sunday, June 16, 2019, a man and woman were driving to their home in Overland Park when they noticed a very large bird flying overhead. "The bird was completely black and was enormous," said one witness. Neither witness could identify the bird. At first, they thought it must be a Condor, but it was much larger. It flew north and out of sight.

This makes gigantic bird sighting number thirteen received by Quest Paranormal Investigation Group, located in Independence, Missouri. Other witnesses describe huge birds with wingspans up to 25' or more. One witness in Sugar Creek saw a bird on June 20, 2019, that was as large as a small plane. (See previous articles on this blog).

Some witnesses speculate that this creature may be the Mothman, a creature seen at Point Pleasant, West Virginia for several months prior to a disastrous bridge disaster in 1967. In his 1975 book The Mothman Prophecies, author John Keel claimed that the Point Pleasant residents experienced precognitions including premonitions of the collapse of the Silver Bridge, unidentified flying object sightings, visits from inhuman or threatening men in black, and other phenomena.

There have been similar events in greater Kansas City. On June 20, 2019, two unidentified objects hovered high over the city for six hours. The objects were captured on video and the story was covered on national news. Some people thought they were weather balloons, but the National Weather Service said they were not weather balloons. DARPA claims that they were high-tech balloons they released on June 17. However, the analysis of the video shows multiple objects, not just three.

On the same day, QPI received reports of unidentified objects that looked like rods, another report of red orbs in the Waldo area of Kansas City, Missouri, and an unexplained brilliant blue light in Independence. The entire K.C. area has been a UFO hot spot since 2011. Could these things be related as they seemed to be in Point Pleasant prior to the bridge collapse?

QPI investigates unexplained sightings of UFOs, cryptid animals, and haunted locations. Contact Margie Kay, Director of QPI at 816-833-1602 for more information or to report your own sighting.

Two Witnesses See Mothman or Giant Bird on June 20 in Independence, Missouri

Two independent witnesses in Sugar Creek and Independence, Missouri reported seeing a Mothman or giant bird on the same day.

Sugar Creek, MO
6/20/2019

4:00 pm

Valerie Hoover was outside in her back yard when she heard a small plane flying overhead.  She looked up and saw a small plane flying from the Southeast to the northwest, but she wasn't prepared to see a bird nearly the same size as the plane.  An extremely large black bird was flying above the plane in a circular pattern. She watched it for five minutes as it flew downward, then up again, then it flew off to the Northeast and out of sight.

She was shocked to see that the bird’s wings were as wide as the plane's. Valerie speculates that it could have been a moth man due to the size. The creature was too far away for her to  see any features, but it did not look like a turkey buzzard, eagle, hawk or any other large bird that she has seen before. “It certainly was much larger than any bird I’ve ever seen, and perhaps it wasn't a bird at all - it may have been a mothman,” said Valerie.

Although Valerie could not identify the type of plane she saw she did recognize that it was a small engine plane. The most popular small engine four -passenger craft is the Cessna 172N Skyhawk with a 36' wingspan and 27' body length. If the bird was the same size, that is one very large creature.

Second sighting:

Independence, Missouri
6/20/2019
6:30 pm

Later that evening at approximately 6:30 pm, another witness saw a giant bird. Terre T. lives in east Independence, Missouri. She heard the birds outside her home suddenly get very agitated and start squawking and screeching, so she ran outside to see what was going on. Her first thought was that there may have been a hawk chasing a small animal, but what she saw stopped her dead in her tracks.

She heard a loud screeching coming from a very large black bird, which had just flown over her house. Terre did not recognize the bird as anything she's seen before. It was all black with fluffy feathers, not smooth and shiny like a crow's feathers. She estimates the size of the wingspan to be at least five to six feet, but can't be certain. The crows and other birds in the trees continued to squawk for several minutes after the giant bird was out of sight, so something agitated them. The creature was heading north and flew out of sight. Note: the Missouri River is north of this location) Terre also speculates that the creature is a Mothman or an unknown type of bird.

California Condor flying over the Grand Canyon

According to Wikipedia, the California Condor is the largest bird in the United States. It has a wingspan of 9.5 feet. However, Condors do not live in the Midwest region, so that eliminates the Condor unless there is a rogue bird here. Even so, the wingspan is still not large enough to explain Valerie's sighting or some of the past sighting reports (see my earlier posts).

These two sightings combined with the six reports already on file, make a total of eight giant bird or Mothman sightings in the same general area in Independence, Missouri in the past few years. (UPDATE:  As of 12/12/19 there have been 24 reports received by QPI).

So what is this creature?  Photos received so far are not clear enough to see what it is.

It is interesting to note that there was a mass UFO sighting in Kansas City on this same day. Is this a coincidence?

Gigantic Winged Creatures Sightings

1/31/18: In the past two weeks three witnesses have seen a creature with gigantic wings in Independence, Missouri – and one was my own. This, added to the three giant bird sightings already on file- makes SIX sighting reports in the same area.

The first sighting was reported by a woman who was headed to her car after work on the evening of Friday, January 12, 2018. She heard sounds like something was flapping and running on the ground towards her from behind. She thought the flapping sound was a plastic tarp that was tied over a crate, but she thought the running sound was someone chasing her. She did not look back - but ran to the car door and jumped into the driver’s seat, then quickly closed and locked the door.

At that point, the woman noticed that there was something black in her rear-view mirror, then the entire car became enveloped in very large feathered black wings from the back around the side windows, and finally covering the front windshield. She was petrified. She could not see anything through the windows except blackness and could not see the body of whatever it was. Then, as quickly as it came, the creature disappeared. She did not see where it went. She was too afraid to get out of the car, so she called her son, who was still inside the building where they both worked.

A check of the security camera at the business showed nothing on camera during the time of the event, other than the woman running to her car and getting inside. Since there was no wind that night, the flapping sound could not have been the plastic tarp. What could have made sounds and be visible to this woman, and not show up on a security camera?

The next evening, I would see my own giant creature. I was outside on my deck sitting in my hot tub at about 11:30 pm when I heard a sound that drew my attention to the trees located on railroad property in the back of my house. These trees are on the opposite side of the tracks and they are about 100 feet away from where I was located.

I was astonished to see a pair of gigantic wings spread out across the front of the trees as if a huge bird was sitting on a branch with its wings out. I could barely make out an indefinable body shape between the wings. It was dark out with the only light coming from the streetlights 300' feet away. Then movement caught my eye to the right in trees on my property. There were several undefined dark masses in these trees that were moving but silent. I turned back to look at the huge wings but they were gone. I noticed that there was no wind and it was dead calm, as it was the night before. I could not tell if the creature left, or if it may have brought its wings down and was still sitting in the trees, but I decided not to stay to find out. This was just too weird for me, so I went inside the house and locked the door.

A couple of days later I received a call from Jean Walker, a local investigator I often work with. She said that a woman saw a giant bird the size of a small plane flying over her house in Sugar Creek one evening this past week at about 11:00 p.m. This location is near the Missouri River and Independence. The witness often sees UFOs over her house, and at times has seen ET’s. Both Jean and I have seen and heard strange things at this person's house, but never a giant bird.

In 2013 there was a giant bird sighting in east Independence by a local woman and her two sons. She said that this creature flew, or rather glided, silently over her house and was the size of a small plane. It had a long straight tail with a puff of feathers at the end of the tail. I did some research and could find no such bird listed anywhere. I then called the Missouri Department of Conservation and they knew of no gigantic birds like I described.

In 2015 my daughter, grandson, and I were standing in the front yard of my office in Independence at dusk when we noticed a very large bird flying overhead. It was flying very high (approx. 1,000 ft) and was extremely large. My grandson took a picture of it, then looked up the shape on an app. The closest thing he could find to match the shape was an albatross, which is not found in this area, but that does not explain the size. We don't know if there is any relation to the recent sightings.

Is it possible that some type of gigantic winged creature is flying the skies over Independence and landing on cars?  If so, where is it hiding out? Perhaps in one of the many caves in the area or trees or bluffs along the Missouri River, which is just a few miles away from most of the sighting locations mentioned, and blocks away from the Sugar Creek sighting event.

It should be noted that a giant bird was reported along the Missouri River near St. Louis about 15 years ago. The witnesses said it looked like a Pterodactyl. We have no way of knowing if it was the same bird, or a species related to the same bird that is being seen in Independence, however, the Missouri River flows from the Independence area to St. Louis. The creature may be something that is navigating along the river. There are numerous caves and bluffs along the river areas where something big could hide.

Several people have speculated that this creature is the Mothman, and is a portent to a coming disaster.

I submitted an inquiry to the Missouri Department of Conservation and here is what they said:

"The largest bird wingspan in Missouri is a bald eagle at 80” (just shy of 7 feet). A bald eagle would be fairly easily recognizable and would not perch on a car, but soar high above or seen perched at a distance. A turkey vulture would, however, perch on a car and has a wingspan of 67” (about 5.5 feet). Not large enough to cover an entire car, though.

No bird in Missouri has a 20-25 feet wingspan. The largest wingspan of any flying bird is the critically endangered California Condor, only found in tiny pockets in the far west."

I would like to hear from anyone who has seen similar creatures, no matter where you live.

Joshua P. Warren discussed these events on his podcast on February 18, 2018

Thunderbird Sighting in Booneville, MO

A man named Mike called in to Coast to Coast AM last night, April 1, 2016 to report that while he and his son were on a fishing trip they heard something like running horses and feld strong vibrations through their feet. The man did not see anything, however, his son said thought he saw a gigantic bird with a 25-foot wingspan. Mike said "I now know why they call them a thunderbird because of the noise and the feeling they cause in the ground."  To listen to the show visit this link to the Coast to Coast AM website:
