Is there a Mothman in Kansas City Again?

I have a question mark after the title of this article title because I honestly don't know what the heck I saw last night. I was meditating while sitting in my hot tub last night at 10:30 pm August 9, 2021 some very strange things occurred. There are two streetlights which sit diagonally from the corners of my house about 75 feet away. I had my eyes closed, but heard a noise which made me open my eyes. I sensed that something was nearby. Then I saw a shadow on my deck, and a very clear outline of a wing, which then closed. I immediately looked in the direction of the streetlight but there was nothing there. The shadow was about 3.5' in height so whatever made it was big, but I did not get a look at it.

Next, I heard a car move into my gravel driveway, except there was no engine sound. I

assumed it must have been an electric vehicle. Then a car door shut. At that point, I jumped up and went to the end of my deck to see who the heck was in my driveway at that time of night - only to see nothing there. No car, no person, nothing. Since we have the only gravel driveway nearby, it had to be my driveway and no one else's.  I wondered several things then - was this a car in another dimension? And were was the person who got out of the vehicle?

I then went inside the house and texted Jean Walker (another investigator) about this and she and I were discussing it when something flew by the second streetlight, blocking it out completely. Whatever it was had to be big. I opened the front door and looked around and saw nothing, but again, sensed that something was there. And it "felt" like a Mothman. Whatever that means. Its difficult to describe but that is what I got.

Then Jean told me that she saw a huge winged shadow on the road in front of her as she was driving from North Kansas City to Raytown earlier the same day. At first she thought it was a plane, but she could seen no plane and nothing else. She wonders if it was a Mothman.

Its very odd but since Jean and I have been working together on UFO and cryptid cases, the same things seem to happen to both of us at or around the same time - even when we are not together.

I've taken over 100 case reports of winged creatures to date, and placed them on Google Maps under Winged Cryptid Sightings, and many are in my book Winged Aliens. Most of the Mothman reports are from the Greater Kansas City area.

So is there a Mothman once again flying around the Kansas City area?  Only time will tell. Keep your eyes peeled and your camera ready!

Daytime Sighting of Giant Humanoid August 5, 2020

                                            Photo: Cryptomundo.com from another sighting

I received a report today from a man who drives for Uber. He was driving a client west on Interstate 70 at the Oak Grove, Missouri exit at approximately 2:00 pm when he spotted a very large winged creature with a human body flying across the road. The shadow on the highway was at least 20' across, according to the witness. The humanoid was flying from north to south, then went out of sight as the witness continued to drive West. He was driving at approximately 70 MPH.  The client was sitting in the back seat and did not see the creature.

The photo above was taken from cryptomundo.com and is from a different witness, but it is representative of what the witness saw in this instance.

The skies were partly cloudy, there was no wind, and the temperature was 78 degrees. Oak Grove is a small town 20 miles east of Kansas City, Missouri.

More information will be added once I continue to interview the witness.

Mothman Sighting in West Alton, MO in 2016

Lon Strickler of Phantoms and Monsters received an emailed report last Monday from a man who said that he and his son encountered a strange flying creature while hunting ducks near West Alton, Missouri in 2016.
Hello Mr. Strickler - in mid-November 2016, my son and I had been duck hunting from a blind in the Upper Mississippi Waterfowl Area, not far from West Alton, Missouri. It was about 5:15 pm and we were walking back to my truck. I had parked in a small lot off of Harbor Point Rd. and we had to walk about 500 yards.
As we walked along the road, my son noticed a huge black thing descending towards the water's edge. I had never seen anything that large flying anywhere. It definitely wasn't a Bald Eagle or a crane, and as it got closer to the ground we were both shocked that it looked like a human!
It wasn't flapping its wings, but was gliding on a slow downward angle. It was about 50 yards from us, but there was enough light that we could clearly see it.
The wings were outstretched and were very wide. The wing shape was similar to that of a bat, but huge! The color was dark, almost black. The body was tapered like a well-built man with long legs. The head was small compared to the body, so I definitely knew it was not human. We were both caught off-guard and were mesmerized by what we were seeing. It landed in the thick weeds by the water and was obscured from our sight.
At that point, we both wanted to get out of there because we had no idea what this thing was. As we quickly walked along the road, we saw this thing crawling out of the weeds and into a small clearing. It was literally pushing itself forward on the ground with its legs and wings in the direction of the water. We could hear the sound it was making as it 'crawled' on the damp ground and mud. It didn't look like it was struggling, but it was an awkward way to move around. Though it had legs, I could not make out what we would think were feet. I assumed this was the way it actually moved on the ground. It slide into the water, then raised up a few times; like a swimmer doing a breast stroke. Then it disappeared into the murky water.
My son will not go to that location anymore, but I'd really like to know what we saw. I told a co-worker, who is also a duck hunter, about the incident. He seemed interested at the time, but I'm sure he doesn't believe me. I've never heard of anything similar to this thing, either around here or anywhere else. Do you have any idea of what this was? I saw your Google ad for humanoid sightings, so I looked you up. We can talk if you'd like. Thanks.
Strickler was able to speak to the witness by telephone the following day; Tuesday, May 29th.
"I asked the witness why he waited so long to contact anyone," Strickler said. "He said that it took him a while to actually believe what he and his son had seen was real."
The witness described the creature's wingspan as approximately 12-15', and the structure of the wings as very wide and bat-like.
"[The witness] also said that the head was small and kind of shaped like a football with a slight point on the top. He did not see detached arms, but by the way it moved along the ground, the arms were most likely part of the wings," said Strickler.
The creature reportedly made no sounds other than those caused by its crawling.
"I also asked if they had a cell phone with them and why they hadn't taken photos," Strickler added. "[The witness] said he didn't even realize that until they got back to the car."
The witness's son has so far refused to discuss the incident.

West Alton is on the Missouri/Illinois border, across the Mississippi River, and is just under 300 miles from Lake Michigan.  The area is bordered to the north, east, and south by the Mississippi River and its tributaries, and several natural areas.

This report bears a strong resemblance to many other sighting reports featuring an unidentified winged being in Illinois and its neighboring states--it describes a large, winged creature with long legs that trail behind it as it flies, and no discernible arms separate from its wings.  However, the creature's crawling and the way it slid into the water are unique to this sighting.

Gigantic Winged Creatures Sightings

1/31/18: In the past two weeks three witnesses have seen a creature with gigantic wings in Independence, Missouri – and one was my own. This, added to the three giant bird sightings already on file- makes SIX sighting reports in the same area.

The first sighting was reported by a woman who was headed to her car after work on the evening of Friday, January 12, 2018. She heard sounds like something was flapping and running on the ground towards her from behind. She thought the flapping sound was a plastic tarp that was tied over a crate, but she thought the running sound was someone chasing her. She did not look back - but ran to the car door and jumped into the driver’s seat, then quickly closed and locked the door.

At that point, the woman noticed that there was something black in her rear-view mirror, then the entire car became enveloped in very large feathered black wings from the back around the side windows, and finally covering the front windshield. She was petrified. She could not see anything through the windows except blackness and could not see the body of whatever it was. Then, as quickly as it came, the creature disappeared. She did not see where it went. She was too afraid to get out of the car, so she called her son, who was still inside the building where they both worked.

A check of the security camera at the business showed nothing on camera during the time of the event, other than the woman running to her car and getting inside. Since there was no wind that night, the flapping sound could not have been the plastic tarp. What could have made sounds and be visible to this woman, and not show up on a security camera?

The next evening, I would see my own giant creature. I was outside on my deck sitting in my hot tub at about 11:30 pm when I heard a sound that drew my attention to the trees located on railroad property in the back of my house. These trees are on the opposite side of the tracks and they are about 100 feet away from where I was located.

I was astonished to see a pair of gigantic wings spread out across the front of the trees as if a huge bird was sitting on a branch with its wings out. I could barely make out an indefinable body shape between the wings. It was dark out with the only light coming from the streetlights 300' feet away. Then movement caught my eye to the right in trees on my property. There were several undefined dark masses in these trees that were moving but silent. I turned back to look at the huge wings but they were gone. I noticed that there was no wind and it was dead calm, as it was the night before. I could not tell if the creature left, or if it may have brought its wings down and was still sitting in the trees, but I decided not to stay to find out. This was just too weird for me, so I went inside the house and locked the door.

A couple of days later I received a call from Jean Walker, a local investigator I often work with. She said that a woman saw a giant bird the size of a small plane flying over her house in Sugar Creek one evening this past week at about 11:00 p.m. This location is near the Missouri River and Independence. The witness often sees UFOs over her house, and at times has seen ET’s. Both Jean and I have seen and heard strange things at this person's house, but never a giant bird.

In 2013 there was a giant bird sighting in east Independence by a local woman and her two sons. She said that this creature flew, or rather glided, silently over her house and was the size of a small plane. It had a long straight tail with a puff of feathers at the end of the tail. I did some research and could find no such bird listed anywhere. I then called the Missouri Department of Conservation and they knew of no gigantic birds like I described.

In 2015 my daughter, grandson, and I were standing in the front yard of my office in Independence at dusk when we noticed a very large bird flying overhead. It was flying very high (approx. 1,000 ft) and was extremely large. My grandson took a picture of it, then looked up the shape on an app. The closest thing he could find to match the shape was an albatross, which is not found in this area, but that does not explain the size. We don't know if there is any relation to the recent sightings.

Is it possible that some type of gigantic winged creature is flying the skies over Independence and landing on cars?  If so, where is it hiding out? Perhaps in one of the many caves in the area or trees or bluffs along the Missouri River, which is just a few miles away from most of the sighting locations mentioned, and blocks away from the Sugar Creek sighting event.

It should be noted that a giant bird was reported along the Missouri River near St. Louis about 15 years ago. The witnesses said it looked like a Pterodactyl. We have no way of knowing if it was the same bird, or a species related to the same bird that is being seen in Independence, however, the Missouri River flows from the Independence area to St. Louis. The creature may be something that is navigating along the river. There are numerous caves and bluffs along the river areas where something big could hide.

Several people have speculated that this creature is the Mothman, and is a portent to a coming disaster.

I submitted an inquiry to the Missouri Department of Conservation and here is what they said:

"The largest bird wingspan in Missouri is a bald eagle at 80” (just shy of 7 feet). A bald eagle would be fairly easily recognizable and would not perch on a car, but soar high above or seen perched at a distance. A turkey vulture would, however, perch on a car and has a wingspan of 67” (about 5.5 feet). Not large enough to cover an entire car, though.

No bird in Missouri has a 20-25 feet wingspan. The largest wingspan of any flying bird is the critically endangered California Condor, only found in tiny pockets in the far west."

I would like to hear from anyone who has seen similar creatures, no matter where you live.
