Cryptid Sightings in the KC area

Quest Paranormal Investigation Group has received a number of cryptid reports from the greater Kansas City area and beyond in recent years. We are at a loss as to why there are so many strange unidentified creatures in this area, or as to why there is so much paranormal activity in general.

In reviewing our files, we have three reports of a short 2' tall kangaroo type creature which was seen in Sugar Creek, Independence, and Blue Springs from 2015-2017 by different individuals. All three were driving at night and saw this unknown animal near or in a roadway. In one case, people had to drive around the creature who was standing in the middle of the road near a Missouri River park. All witnesses reported that the creature was a tan color, had short hair, ears that stood straight up, and it sat back on its haunches. The top part of the body was smaller than the bottom half, and its front legs were short. Unless a small kangaroo escaped from a nearby zoo, or unless this is a baby chupacabra, we have no other explanation.

Four witnesses describe seeing a very large wolf-size or larger creature with short grey mottled hair and short front legs, large body muscular back end, and a long snout. These sightings were near Lake Jacomo and Blue Springs Lake, off of 40-Hwy in Blue Springs, and near Nevada, Missouri from 2009 to 2019. In all cases, the creature made no sound and moved very fast across or beside the roadway. All sightings were at night after dark. Suggestions have been made that this is a Chupacabra, however, most Chupacabra reports are of a hairless creature that is much smaller. A call to the Missouri Department of Conservation yielded no explanation for the description of this animal.

One cryptid sighting stands out among the others - and this happened on 23rd Street in Independence in 2015. A woman and her husband left the Hy-Vee grocery store at approximately 8:30 pm and traveled west. Suddenly, a very large wolf-like white animal appeared to their right and ran along the street on the far right side of the road. The creature's back was a tall as the top of the car door. The legs were shorter in front than in back. The husband slowed the vehicle down and came to a complete stop, and as he did so the animal turned in front of the car and then faded out and disappeared right in front of them, leaving the couple to believe that it was some type of inter-dimensional creature.

There have been a number of Sasquatch sightings in Sugar Creek, Monkey Mountain, Independence, Lee's Summit, Burr Oak Woods, and Grandview in the past six years, but Sasquatch sightings in these areas date back at least to the 1970's.

In the Sugar Creek case, which is ongoing, witnesses report hearing Sasquatch calls/screams from wooded areas around their houses. The primary witness lived on a farm as a child and does not recognize the calls as any known animal. At a location nearby at the Sugar Creek Conservation area, three men were fishing in a stream in 2014 when a large black Sasquatch walked out of the woods, stared into the stream while looking back and forth, then turned and walked back into the woods. The three men didn't say a word, but dropped their gear and ran to their vehicle. They haven't been back since.

In Lee's Summit, a witness' dog acted very afraid of something, then she heard a loud grunt/growl that she did not recognize as coming from any known animal. The sound came from the woods behind her house. She no longer walks her dog at night by herself.

Gigantic bird or Mothman sightings top the list, however, with 22 reports received by Quest in the past few years. Most reports were few and far between, but so far in 2019 we took at least 17 reports from witnesses who saw bird-like creatures with wing-spans of 10' to 36'. One man was able to capture a photo of one of these Mothman type beings in flight in 2014. It had the body of a man and gigantic black wings. We've seen the photo, but don't have permission to release it to the public yet. To me, it looks authentic. (See my other articles on this subject for more details).

Most of these giant bird reports come from the east Jackson county area near bodies of water, but one was in Overland Park, Kansas on a busy street. Some of the witnesses who filed reports are known to me, so I know they are credible, however, as an investigator, I need proof, and to date, we have little evidence that these cryptid creatures exist.

If you've seen any type of cryptid please contact us at margiekay06@yahoo.com

The Fast Movers

I am working on a book called The Fast Movers, which is about the very-fast moving objects in our skies which are normally not visible to the naked eye. Some of us can see them, others are getting film of these objects using a technique where a UV filter or sunglasses are placed over the camera lens, then photos or preferably video is taken. The photographer positions himself next to the eve of a house while the sun is directly overhead and with the sun just out of sight, films the sky.

When analyzing the film frame by frame, objects often appear, and in some cases can be seen two or three times in consecutive frames, making it possible to determine the speed of the objects, which are often moving at thousands of miles per hour. Obviously, a higher speed camera will capture more objects.

During the June 20, 2019 UFO scare over Kansas City where thousands of people called the local media, three witnesses took film footage. Larry Tyree, a field investigator for Missouri MUFON, analyzed this footage, finding many dark fast-moving objects (20) around the three larger white objects that were visible to the naked eye. The darker objects were moving at the speed of 8,000 MPH.
I am one of the people that see the Fast Movers with the naked eye, likely because I've been practicing meditation for many years, and am a remote-viewer. In fact, on nearly any day I'm able to see these objects in the skies, but particularly just after a storm. The negative ions in the air may make it easier to see these objects. I know of a few other people who have seen them as well. The objects are usually only visible for a second or less, but if they are visible for one second or longer I am able to get a very good look at them. They appear in all shapes and sizes, and either as a dark object or a very bright white object.

If you have either taken film footage of these fast-movers or have seen them with the naked eye and would like to submit something for the book, please contact me privately at editor@unxmedia.com.

The photo attached is a close-up enhancement of a photo of a Fast-Mover submitted on another group page. Larry Tyree did the enhancement.

LOCATION OF OBSERVATION:
1/2 mile SE of Columbia-NE1/4, SE 1/4, sec. 17, R. 12W, T.48N, Boone County, Missouri
SETTING: The witnesses live in a mobile home located outside the city limits of Columbia. The home is located at the end of a dead end lane about 1,000 feet N of State Road WW.
The home is surrounded by scattered trees with the exception of the front yard, to the E. A house is located across the lane to the E and is occupied by an elderly lady who was asleep at the time of the observation.
OTHERS CONTACTED REGARDING THIS EVENT:
Mrs. A.P., Directory Assistance Operator, Columbia
Mrs. L.M., Operator, Columbia
Mrs. H.S., Federal Aviation Administration, Columbia
The following information was gathered during three visits at the home of the James Richard’s family.
Portions of the report are taken directly from the taped interviews.
THE OBSERVATION: The event began as Vanea went into the kitchen ( located at N end of the mobile home ) to place a baby bottle in the refrigerator, which is located by the N window and that window was open at the time. Vanea heard a rather loud ( it could be heard over the record player in the living room ) thrashing sound in the direction of scattered trees some 80 feet N of the window. At this point she could see nothing in the dark, wooded area. As she listened at the window the sound seemed to be moving around a large tree .
As the sound persisted she became rather frightened and called to her father to come to the window. Mr. Richard’s and Jamie were sitting in the living room. Richards stated that as it was late, he was tired and was slow going to the window. Vanea ran to the screened porch at the front of the home and locked the outside screen door and the front door.
By this time Richards had reached the window and was looking from the left side of the window toward the N-NE. Vanea took up a position on the right side of the window and was looking toward the trees . As he watched, Mr. Richards noted two beams of light which were located at a point between a fence and the trees.
The light beams would have been about 50 feet from the window. The beams were tapered, wide at the top, about four feet wide, tapering to about two feet at the ground. They were some five feet apart at the top. The beams were bright and silver-white in color. He could not see any form above or behind the beams.
Suddenly, the beams disappeared, faded out rapidly, and a bright oval form was seen just above the original position of the beams.
richardslimb
Richards and Vanea estimated the glowing form to be twelve to fifteen feet in diameter and very near the ground. The object was described as extremely bright ( Richards had to turn his eyes away briefly ) and silver-white in color.
The edges were fuzzy and no surface details were visible. The glow did not fade or brighten during the observation. The trees around the form, to the left and right, were quite visible in the glow. The area was “lit up bright as day.” No sound could be heard other than the thrashing noise in the trees and grass.
No other forms were seen. They noted that the trees were moving back and forth as though blown by a strong wind. ( wind speed was 5 knots-no storms in area ) Tree A showed a different motion… it was described by Vanea as a “tugging” motion. It seemed that something was pulling that one tree toward the ground.
Shortly after the form was visible the thrashing noise ceased. The tugging motion on tree A was still evident. Mr. Richards and Vanea heard a loud cracking sound and the tugging motion stopped. It was his tree which was damaged…the following morning a large limb was found broken at a point 17 feet above the ground.
The area was very quiet now: Richards moved to the various windows around the trailer. It was at this time that he noticed his dogs lying very still between the trailer and a shed nearby to the W. He told me the dogs were normally barking during the night at the various night animals in the area.
It seemed very strange to him that his dogs were not barking at all this noise and bright lights.(the dogs are large security animals and not easily frightened) Richards then went to the bedroom at the S end of the trailer to get his guns.
He brought the guns to the kitchen, removed several shells from a cabinet, loaded the guns and placed them on a deep freeze by the N window. He joined Vanea at the window once again and noted that the object was still there in the same position. The light from the glowing form illuminated trees as far away as 100 feet.
At this close position(about 50 feet) it was silver-white or aluminum in color, no other colors were visible. Mr. Richards said, It was real, real bright at the center, dull white at the edges, way beyond a normal light(such as an automobile headlight at the same distance) in brightness. Of the brightness vanea said, It was bright, but it didn’t hurt my eyes.
After the form had remained in this same position for several minutes Richards decided to call for help. The object suddenly began to move away toward the N, passing below tree limbs through an open area some 20 feet wide. It moved parallel to the ground until it reached the edge of a field and then raised slightly and hovered some 200 feet away from the house.
At this point it was not as bright and they could see it was silver-white at the center with a blue band of light and an orange glow extending around the outer edge. It was still low enough to be below a line of trees at the N edge of the field. When it was at this far point, Richards said,
The color, it was something to behold, I’m telling you, it was, really. The object moved about 10 degrees to the W, stopped briefly and moved back to its original position over the field. The motion was smooth and slow.
While the object was some distance away Richards dialed 113 for directory assistance. Mrs. A.P. took the call and later told me that Richards was very excited and seemed to be frightened as he described the event. He told her that he needed help and asked her to contact the police, the FBI, or anyone who could help him.
After about one minute she told him she would contact an operator and have her call him back. As he talked with Mrs. P., the house lights dimmed twice.
He hung up and returned to the window. While Richards and Vanea were watching the object, Mrs. P. contacted Mrs. L.M. and gave her the phone number. Mrs. M. immediately dialed the number, there was no busy signal, no ring-nothing-in her opinion, the Richards line was dead.
She tried dialing the number five times, pausing after the third try to contact Mrs.P. to be sure she had the right number. She did. After the fifth try(she stated it would have taken perhaps three minutes to dial five times, waiting briefly after each dial and contacting Mr. P. she did not get through.
During this time Richards was quite concerned as no one had called back, so he picked up the receiver to call out again. Over his end of the line he could hear no sound, no busy signal. He tried again and again, suddenly, as he recalls, Mrs. M. was on the line saying – Richards? and he answered-Jefferson City?
Richards then told Mrs. M. what had been happening and that he was frightened for his children.
Mrs. M. thought ( she could not be sure ) that she contacted the Richards home at about 0045. To her best recollection, he repeated his story over and over, pausing to ask Vane if it was still there and what it was doing.
Both operators felt that Richards was sober and telling the truth. After what seemed to be several minutes(she couldn’t be sure of the time line) Mrs. M. contacted the Flight Service Station ( FAA ) at the Columbia Regional Airport. Mrs. H.S. was on duty at the time, Mrs. S. stated that Richards sounded sincere and sober. He seemed to be frightened as he described the event.
After several minutes Mrs. S. told Richards that there had been another sighting on June 24th at Jefferson City. She then told him that she would contact the police for him and they hung up.
The object was again moving toward the home and Richards became very frightened. Richards stated, It came back and we had it, I’ll tell you. we didn’t know what to do, we both got kinda scared.
I said, what’s gonna happen? Something’s gonna happen here. This cold feeling came over me, I got speechless at this time. I just had this cold feeling when it came back that second time. I was just sure, like you almost feel that you were gonna get killed or something. Like death was at you, this was it. I didn’t know what to do, I just froze.
I just knew this was it and no one would come, no policemen. I was scared to go out the door, I wouldn’t have gone outside, no way.
The object moved through the trees to a point near in the trees near its original position 50 feet away from the window. It remained there for an undetermined period of time. It suddenly moved away, through the trees toward the field. It move with a smooth, slow motion, no sound. Richards noted that the trees did not move during the second close approach and there was no thrashing sound.
As the object reached a point at the near edge of the field it raised slightly until it reached a point over the field some 200 feet away. it hovered and no motion could be seen.
It was still below the tree line to the N. The orange and blue bands could be seen again, it was silver-white at the center. The glow seemed to shrink, even though it was getting smaller the orange and blue bands were visible until it just disappeared by growing smaller and smaller.
It does not appear likely it was growing smaller because it was moving away into the distance as no motion could be seen and it would have hit the trees to the N had it flown away. After the glow had faded out the object was not seen again.
At about 0145 the police arrived, one young officer walked to the area with Richards and looked around briefly. He told Richards that there were some tracks but they looked like they were made by rabbits. Richards told him to forget the whole thing and he returned to the trailer, followed by the officer.
He told the officer if he thought they were rabbit tracks he should forget the whole thing. It is very possible the officer didn’t see the deep imprints. They did not see the broken limb at that time. Richards called the Flight Service Station after the object had disappeared and Mrs. S. stated that he seemed relieved that he could talk with someone about the event.
THE SITE: July 9, 1973… my wife and I interviewed the witnesses and investigated the area on our way to Chicago. Allen Hynek had invited us for a visit and to meet jazz drummer Buddy Rich ( I being a drummer and had mentioned to Allen that Buddy was my favorite on the planet ) Buddy had a sighting and had contacted Allen a week earlier and was playing in Chicago for a week.
I spent most of the time obtaining measurements and taking photographs of the site. The imprints and damage to trees is located in an area of scattered trees N of the trailer. A fence is located 25 feet from the window and the first imprint was found some 50.5 feet beyond the fence.
This seemed to be a series of imprints rather than just one. The imprints at this point number 4, they were 0.5 feet by 0.4 feet with a depth of 0.2 to 0.3 feet. This first set of imprints are 9.5 feet from a large broken tree limb. This limb is 0.4 feet in diameter and was still attached to the tree trunk.
It appeared to have been twisted and pulled toward the ground. The limb was broken at a point 16.5 feet above the ground. two smaller limbs, each 0.1 feet in diameter, located on the larger limb, were broken off.
A small limb 17.0 feet above the ground and extending from the tree trunk at the point of the break, shows signs of being rubbed. All the breaks are fresh. Leaves in the area above the path taken by the object to and from the field, but especially over the point where it had hovered are dying.
There are signs of heating three limbs on tree B had leaves that are brown, these are 25 to 35 feet above the ground. To the North of the first imprints ( along the objects reported path ) we found a complex series of imprints.
It is difficult to determine a pattern as the object moved through this area four times, coming in an going out. Bob Gassaway, a reporter for the Columbia Tribune, visited the area the day after the sighting. He told me that he tried to make a heel mark by one of the imprints and although he weighs over 300 pounds, he could force his heel to a depth of only 1/2 inch.
As the imprints are generally 0.5 by 0.4 feet with a depth of 0.3 feet, we must assume a weight on each imprint much above 300 pounds ( rabbits? ). There were no marks in the field and no radiation could be detected. Plaster casts were taken and the imprints outlined with flour for photographs.
When we arrived in Chicago I processed the film at the Northwestern University darkroom. We described the event with the photographs and Buddy and Allen both planned to go back with us, Allen made it but Buddy couldn’t get around a schedule. Buddy and I discussed cases many times after this.
On July 14th we returned with J. Allen. The leaves were all quite dead & the limbs were barren over the area.

New giant bird sighting in KC makes number 19

Giant bird sighting report number 19 was received in my office on August 4, 2019. A man by the name of Alex was driving on 291 Highway in Independence, Missouri on Monday, July 29 at 5:00 pm when he noticed a very large bird circling high overhead. He pulled over to get a better look at the dark-colored creature because the size was so amazing. Alex said that it was similar to the shape of an Eagle, but way too large to be a bird of that type, and that it must have been something else. He was unable to get a photograph.

291 Highway is located on the east side of Independence, Missouri. Many similar reports have been made (see my articles posted earlier).

UFOs over KC June 20 were not weather balloons

By ASD MO Margie Kay

Multiple UFO reports were filed with the Mutual UFO Network and the National UFO Reporting Center during the week of June 20, 2019, regarding large white orb-shaped objects in the skies over Kansas City, Missouri. A total of three of these objects were visible over a six-hour period and witnessed by thousands of people. The event was covered in local and national media.

The National Weather Service was contacted after multiple witnesses called local TV stations in an effort to find out what the objects were, and the NWS Tweeted “We honestly have no explanation for the floating objects over Kansas City,” which prompted a plethora of theories about aliens in the skies over KC.

DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) release a statement on June 20 which indicated they released three high-tech balloons on June 18, 2019 “Last night, DARPA launched three balloons from Cumberland, Maryland, in a flight test for the Adaptable Lighter Than Air program. Over the next few days, ALTA will demonstrate capability for wind-borne navigation of a lighter-than-air vehicle over extended ranges. The goal of the Adaptable Lighter Than Air (ALTA) program is to develop and demonstrate a high altitude lighter-than-air vehicle capable of wind-borne navigation over extended ranges,"

"The balloons can fly at altitudes of more than 75,000 feet. While they do not have independent propulsion, the ALTA vehicle is designed to navigate by changing altitude and thus taking advantage of different wind profiles aloft. A state-of-the-art Winds Aloft Sensor (WAS) is also being developed on the program, which is intended to provide real-time stratospheric wind measurements.” the agency said on its website.

Right now, balloons can only stay in one area for a few days before shifting winds take them elsewhere. But as the MIT Technology Review reported, ALTA’s wind sensor—originally designed for NASA satellites—is built to spot wind speed and direction from long distances and recalibrate as necessary to stay in one area as long as needed. The location is in the stratosphere. Unless the DARPA made an exception and lowered the altitude of their balloons to 2,900 feet, this would eliminate the balloon theory.

Witnesses said that the objects did not behave like balloons. The three objects remained in the sky over Kansas City for six hours, which is unusual behavior for balloons since balloons travel on prevailing winds from west to east. People reported seeing similar objects in New Jersey, St. Louis, and Kansas City in an east-west pattern, which is the opposite to the direction weather balloons travel.
Unexplained dark objects in video frames

Missouri MUFON Field Investigator Larry Tyree analyzed three videos submitted by witnesses in two different locations at the same time. Amazingly, Larry found 20 other dark unidentified objects in the sky around the three large white objects. The video was analyzed frame by frame in order to see these other objects which were moving very fast and seemingly checking out the large white orbs. Some of us have been investigating what we call the “Fast Movers,” which are UFOs that move so fast they are usually not trackable by the naked eye. These can only be viewed by looking at many video frames.

Several other UFO sightings were reported on June 20 and several days before and after this event. These include brilliant red orbs at treetop and ground level in the Waldo area of Kansas City; 18 transparent kidney-shaped rods at tree level we witnessed by MUFON Field Investigator James Bair; two metallic oblong objects were witnessed over Excelsior Springs (Northeast of Kansas City); and one sighting of a bright blue object which caused the witness (myself) to have light sensitivity since the event on the evening of June 20. In my case, I noticed a bright blue object on top of a streetlight at 10:00 pm and watched it for approximately 30 seconds, after which it shot off to the SE at extremely high speed. Immediately after this sighting, my eyes became extremely sensitive to light and this has not eased up.

Three sightings of giant birds were also reported by witnesses on June 20. There have been 18 sightings of giant birds with wingspans measuring 12’ – 36’ feet in the KC area in the past few years which witnesses describe as an unknown black bird, a legendary Thunderbird from Native American legends, or a Mothman. It is unknown whether the birds are related to the UFOs, but it is odd that the Mothman sightings in Point Pleasant West Virginia in the 1960s were accompanied by unexplained UFOs and orbs seen by may people. Although seemingly unrelated, the bird sightings should not be taken lightly. Either there is an unknown cryptid on the loose or 18 people have hallucinated something. Another explanation may be that some of these are drones. I had a hawk swoop over my car just this morning and I heard a humming sound at the same time. This may be indicative of drones disguised as birds, which further complicates the issue.

The Kansas City Chapter of the Mutual UFO Network hosted a special Town Hall Meeting on July 15, 2019, at the Ararat Shrine Temple in Kansas City, Missouri in order to present information about the recent UFO sightings during the week of June 20, 2019, and to take more reports. The group usually expects about 20 – 25 people to attend, but 150 people crammed into the room for this special meeting after it was covered in the Kansas City Star, USA Today, KCTV5, FOX4, Yahoo, and other news media. Field investigators James Bair and Jean Walker spoke to witnesses and took their first-hand accounts. It was clear that people want answers to the UFO question in general, and especially what was in the skies over KC on June 20.

Larry T’s analysis of case #101330 shows that there are additional objects in the sky near the large white object. After finding dark-colored objects traveling on a straight-line trajectory, Larry was able to merge frames together in order to show the path of the objects. This is related directly to MUFON case 101408 (in Liberty) because they were both witnessing the same event and taking videos at nearly the same moment. The Liberty sighting was 21.5 miles NNW at 336 degrees. NUFORC had 5 sighting reports of the same two white objects on 06/20/2019. All these sightings occurred between 1900 and 2000 hours.

The white objects/craft were calculated to be 37.4 feet in length at 2,954 feet in altitude. The DARPA balloons are designed to remain in the stratosphere, so it does not make sense that the objects over Kansas City were the DARPA Balloons.

As with the other two cases, small black craft were seen in frame by frame analysis to do flybys of the two white objects. Larry calculated one of the black crafts to be moving at a speed of 8,200 MPH, leaving one to conclude that the dark objects were U.S. military aircraft or craft of unknown origin.

Our conclusion is that the white objects viewed by many people over Kansas City on June 20 and the dark fast-moving objects that were only visible by looking at video frame by frame remain unidentified, even though the media is perfectly happy with the intimation by DARPA that they were special weather balloons. With the many UFO sightings and strange giant bird reports, investigators in the KC area are perplexed as to what is going on in our area, but we are determined to find answers.

Town Hall Meeting in Kansas City: UFO and Giant Bird Sightings

Multiple UFO reports were filed with the Mutual UFO Network during the week of June 20, 2019. We will discuss these reports and show video and still photographs of the objects. The public may file sighting reports at the meeting.

The Kansas City Chapter of the
Mutual UFO Network is hosting
a special Town Hall Meeting on
July 15, 2018 at the Ararat
Shrine Temple at 5100
Ararat Drive, Kansas City,
Missouri in order to present
 information about the
recent UFO sightings during
the week of June 10, 2019.
Several sightings of giant
birds were also reported. Field
investigators will be on hand to take sighting reports from the public.

The number of reports is unusually high. Some objects may have
been High-Tech balloons from DARPA, but an investigator captured images of other objects flying near the balloons which are currently
unidentified. Other reports included small bright red orbs and
transparent rod-shaped objects at tree level. Investigators are
currently working on these reports.

The town hall meeting will begin at 6:00 PM and the regular
MUFON meeting will start at approximately 7:00 PM. Both
meetings are open to the public.

$5.00 admission covers both events.

For those who wish to order dinner the restaurant will begin serving
at 5:00 pm in the meeting hall. The easiest way to access the
meeting hall is to park in back of the building and go in the back
door then turn left and go through the restaurant.

What is the Giant Bird Flying Over Kansas City Skies?

Quest Paranormal Investigation Group just received another report of a giant bird sighting in the skies over greater Kansas City. But unlike the previous eight sightings located in Independence and Sugar Creek, Missouri, near the Missouri River, this event occurred in Overland Park, Kansas approximately 20 miles to the southwest.

On Sunday, June 16, 2019, a man and woman were driving to their home in Overland Park when they noticed a very large bird flying overhead. "The bird was completely black and was enormous," said one witness. Neither witness could identify the bird. At first, they thought it must be a Condor, but it was much larger. It flew north and out of sight.

This makes gigantic bird sighting number thirteen received by Quest Paranormal Investigation Group, located in Independence, Missouri. Other witnesses describe huge birds with wingspans up to 25' or more. One witness in Sugar Creek saw a bird on June 20, 2019, that was as large as a small plane. (See previous articles on this blog).

Some witnesses speculate that this creature may be the Mothman, a creature seen at Point Pleasant, West Virginia for several months prior to a disastrous bridge disaster in 1967. In his 1975 book The Mothman Prophecies, author John Keel claimed that the Point Pleasant residents experienced precognitions including premonitions of the collapse of the Silver Bridge, unidentified flying object sightings, visits from inhuman or threatening men in black, and other phenomena.

There have been similar events in greater Kansas City. On June 20, 2019, two unidentified objects hovered high over the city for six hours. The objects were captured on video and the story was covered on national news. Some people thought they were weather balloons, but the National Weather Service said they were not weather balloons. DARPA claims that they were high-tech balloons they released on June 17. However, the analysis of the video shows multiple objects, not just three.

On the same day, QPI received reports of unidentified objects that looked like rods, another report of red orbs in the Waldo area of Kansas City, Missouri, and an unexplained brilliant blue light in Independence. The entire K.C. area has been a UFO hot spot since 2011. Could these things be related as they seemed to be in Point Pleasant prior to the bridge collapse?

QPI investigates unexplained sightings of UFOs, cryptid animals, and haunted locations. Contact Margie Kay, Director of QPI at 816-833-1602 for more information or to report your own sighting.

Two Witnesses See Mothman or Giant Bird on June 20 in Independence, Missouri

Two independent witnesses in Sugar Creek and Independence, Missouri reported seeing a Mothman or giant bird on the same day.

Sugar Creek, MO
6/20/2019

4:00 pm

Valerie Hoover was outside in her back yard when she heard a small plane flying overhead.  She looked up and saw a small plane flying from the Southeast to the northwest, but she wasn't prepared to see a bird nearly the same size as the plane.  An extremely large black bird was flying above the plane in a circular pattern. She watched it for five minutes as it flew downward, then up again, then it flew off to the Northeast and out of sight.

She was shocked to see that the bird’s wings were as wide as the plane's. Valerie speculates that it could have been a moth man due to the size. The creature was too far away for her to  see any features, but it did not look like a turkey buzzard, eagle, hawk or any other large bird that she has seen before. “It certainly was much larger than any bird I’ve ever seen, and perhaps it wasn't a bird at all - it may have been a mothman,” said Valerie.

Although Valerie could not identify the type of plane she saw she did recognize that it was a small engine plane. The most popular small engine four -passenger craft is the Cessna 172N Skyhawk with a 36' wingspan and 27' body length. If the bird was the same size, that is one very large creature.

Second sighting:

Independence, Missouri
6/20/2019
6:30 pm

Later that evening at approximately 6:30 pm, another witness saw a giant bird. Terre T. lives in east Independence, Missouri. She heard the birds outside her home suddenly get very agitated and start squawking and screeching, so she ran outside to see what was going on. Her first thought was that there may have been a hawk chasing a small animal, but what she saw stopped her dead in her tracks.

She heard a loud screeching coming from a very large black bird, which had just flown over her house. Terre did not recognize the bird as anything she's seen before. It was all black with fluffy feathers, not smooth and shiny like a crow's feathers. She estimates the size of the wingspan to be at least five to six feet, but can't be certain. The crows and other birds in the trees continued to squawk for several minutes after the giant bird was out of sight, so something agitated them. The creature was heading north and flew out of sight. Note: the Missouri River is north of this location) Terre also speculates that the creature is a Mothman or an unknown type of bird.

According to Wikipedia, the California Condor is the largest bird in the United States. It has a wingspan of 9.5 feet. However, Condors do not live in the Midwest region, so that eliminates the Condor unless there is a rogue bird here. Even so, the wingspan is still not large enough to explain Valerie's sighting or some of the past sighting reports (see my earlier posts).

These two sightings combined with the six reports already on file, make a total of eight giant bird or Mothman sightings in the same general area in Independence, Missouri in the past few years. (UPDATE:  As of 12/12/19 there have been 24 reports received by QPI).

So what is this creature?  Photos received so far are not clear enough to see what it is.

It is interesting to note that there was a mass UFO sighting in Kansas City on this same day. Is this a coincidence?

1984 Bat-Like Creature Sighted at Monkey Mountain

After I posted the article below about gigantic bird-like creature sightings in East Jackson County, Missouri I received emails from other witnesses.

Two people who were visiting Monkey Mountain Nature Preserve east of Oak Grove, Missouri saw an unusual creature while hiking there in the summer of 1984.  She and her husband both saw a 7-foot plus tall humanoid/bat-like creature with very large wings standing next to a tree. The creature fluttered its bat-like wings as they approached on a trail, and both people stopped dead in their tracks. It was near dusk, but the witnesses could see the creature clearly.

"It had a bat-like face and a man-like body. The wings were not spread out, but you could tell they were huge. The first thing I thought was that it could have been the Mothman," said the witness. "It had glowing red eyes, and that was the scariest part of the sighting."

The woman and her husband slowly backed up, then turned and walked back down the trail, not looking back.

It should be noted that a lot of strange events have occurred at Monkey Mountain, including multiple sightings of Sasquatch and a chupacabra like animal, strange noises and animal calls that can't be identified, and a general eerie feeling of being watched. Some people who have visited the area won't go back.

In the 1970's a group of people recorded sounds at Monkey Mountain and later had them analyzed in the 2000's by a voice and audio expert, who determined that the calls were not from a human being or any known animal.

UFO Investigators Encounter Sasquatch

A group of five seasoned UFO and Sasquatch investigators were working together on a case involving multiple UFO sightings near Union, Missouri in October of 2018 when they encountered something they weren't expecting.

The team was on a cove off of a river at approximately 9:00 p.m. when one they all heard the sound of a large tree limb being broken in half. The location of the sound was across the river in the woods. The area is surrounded by trees and deep woods and it is not all accessible by road. One of the investigators said that it may have been a Sasquatch letting know we are in their territory, as she couldn't imagine that a person was in the woods at that time, and there was no sign of a camp or fire, and no clearings in the area for a camp.

About 30 minutes later the entire group heard what can only be described as chattering coming from the same area across the river. Chattering is often associated with bigfoot and may be a means of communication.

The group continued their UFO investigation using high-powered binoculars and night-vision binoculars. One team member viewed something walking in the woods through her night-vision binoculars at approximately 10:00 p.m., and she believes it was a Sasquatch. The location was on the same side of the river where the investigators were standing. She described the creature as being furry all over and light in color, although the night vision technology may have distorted the actual color. It was walking upright on two legs and she was able to see all of the creature from the knees up as it walked at a medium pace through the heavily wooded area. Since it was extremely dark outside, it is hard to conceive of a human walking that quickly through the woods, especially without a flashlight.

Taking everything into consideration, the team believes that there may be several Sasquatch in the area, which they plan to investigate further in the near future. The team prefers to remain anonymous at this time.
